G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Breaker
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is the next installment of my childhood to get the feature film treatment with the film's release August 7. Because the 80s were such a long time ago and you might not remember who was in your staged Joe/Cobra fights in your backyard, Omnicomic is profiling each character in the upcoming film. So sit back, read on and get reacquainted with some old friends.
Real Name: Alvin R. Kibbey
First Apearance: G.I. Joe #1 (1982), Marvel Comics
Actor: Said Taghmaoui
Speciality: Communications. Breaker is intimately familiar with a wide variety of communications equipment- military standard and otherwise. He’s studied covert means of electronic signaling and is fluent in seven different languages. He’s also trained as an infantry soldier.
Background: Hailing from Tennessee, Kibbey is the Joe’s man when it comes to electronic and wavelength transmissions- whether it means sending a message through or decoding a scrambled signal. He’s cool under pressure and very good at his job, described as having a talent for turning ‘adverse situations to his favor’.
He’s usually depicted as chewing bubblegum. In the comics, the gum frequently became one of Kibbey’s best ‘tricks’. He’d use in a variety of ways- like popping it over a loudspeaker to convince Cobra footsoldiers that a cannon was firing, or rubbing it on rope to coax rats into chewing it.
