Danny Fingeroth Senior VP of Education at MoCCA
Recently, I made my way to the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City. While the actual museum was relatively small, it was jampacked with all sorts of comic awesomeness. One of the biggest problems with comics though is that a lot of people so many people want to break in, but have no idea how to. So there has to be some way to educate potential writers and artists on how to make their way into comics, and what better teacher than the museum itself. In order to teach such classes, the MoCCA has recently promoted Danny Fingeroth to Senior VP of Education. Yep. That Danny Fingeroth.
“It’s my honor to be involved with making MoCCA the go-to place for all things relating to learning how to create comics and graphic novels,” Fingeroth says. “It’s the most natural fit in the world for MoCCA to be not just where people go to see incredible exhibits and presentations about the art, craft and history of the sequential art medium, but where they can also learn the elements of the artform and how to practice them. Our rollout roster of courses aims to give aspiring creators the tools to express themselves in comics form, whether their interests are in superheroes or in idiosyncratic, personal storytelling.”
In case you don't know, Fingeroth is best known for his stint during the 80s as editor of Spider-man. He also wrote all 50 issues of Darkhawk between 1991 and 1995. He has since moved on to Virtual Comics, Visionary Media and now writes for TwoMorrows Pubishing.
The first educational offering as a part of this newfound education initiative will be "How to Write Comics and Graphic Novels." The class will be a weekly, 8-session course starting Tuesday, October 13, and running till December 8 taught by Fingeroth himself. Another class, "Storytelling for Comics Artists," will start Wednesday December 2 and run for three weeks and feature the educational stylings of Klaus Janson.
And yeah, that is a picture of Dazzler up there. Fingeroth spent a good deal of time writing Dazzler, and Dazzler makes Tedd happy.
