Preview - First Wave #1

I'll be one of the first to admit that I don't know much about Doc Savage, but his recent appearance in the news is getting me somewhat excited for the character. DC seems to be pushing him as a big character, and this is especially true with his inclusion in the upcoming series called First Wave. The series features the previously mentioned PhD in addition to the Spirit (yes, that Spirit of Central City fame and some guy named "Batman." Yeah, not sure why DC is including an unknown like that. This incarnation is a departure from the Gotham playboy-turned-vigilante we've all come to know and love as he's cocky, inexperienced and daring. Oh. Did I mention the six-issue neo-noir mini-series is by Brian Azzarello with art by Rags Morales? Azzarello is excited. “It’s exciting to be part of this. Everybody involved has really worked their tails off building this world, and as it rolls out in the next few months, you can expect more than a few surprises. The most important thing for us as creators is to make readers care about the characters. I think they’ll find themselves caring in ways they haven’t before. It should be fun.” I'm really, really excited for this series. The three characters included don't have any supernatural powers (to an extent) and I think the trio will work really, really well together. No word on a release date yet but you can be sure that I'll be keeping my eye out for when these issues hit. Check out some interiors from the first issue after the jump.
