Spielberg a fan of Ghost in the Shell
Who knew? Steven Spielberg is a big fan of anime.
Variety reports that Dreamworks has just acquired the rights to Ghost in the Shell, and plans on making a nice and pretty 3-D movie of it. Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul of Seaside Entertainment are being brought on board, which does lend some credibility to the flick, while Jamie Moss (of Street Kings fame) is being tapped to adapt the flim.
"Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite stories," Spielberg said. "It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks."
The anime was somewhat weird to me, but maybe I just saw it when I was too young. I'm not saying its not a good movie, I just think its one of those movies like Akira that you really have to focus on it. In any case, a live-action CGI movie could be promising.
