Man dressed as The Joker killed

Imitation is considered to be the most sincerest form of flattery. Sometimes that imitation leads to violence or even death which really isn't all that flattering. Tragically, a Virginia man dressed as Heath Ledger's Joker found this out the hard way. According to the Associated Press, Army Spc. Christopher Lanum, a suspect in the stabbing of a fellow soldier at Fort Eustis, VA, was killed hours after the attack when officers attempted to stop the minivan he was driving, according to court documents filed Wednesday that first disclosed the weekend shooting. And he happened to be dressed as Heath Ledger's Joker, as he apparently idolized the character. He was killed because he pointed a loaded shotgun at the authorities that approached him. I really can't say there's any awesomeness to this, as someone died and others were injured. I know that neither Christopher Nolan nor Ledger ever intended for something like this to happen. The fact that it did happen should not require a call to arms about the link between multimedia and violence because this man did not kill anyone because he saw The Dark Knight. That association was just an unfortunate coincidence. Omnicomic sends its condolensces to those families involved. Man dressed as The Joker killed
