Chris Hemsworth is Thor

Finally, another casting search is put to rest. Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood Daily just broke news that Chris Hemsworth has been chosen as the lead in the upcoming Thor movie, after what seemed to be an endless search. The Australian is a relative unknown, with his most famous role being as George Kirk in J.J. Abrams Star Trek. He's currently filming Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods, and IMDB's page for him doesn't even have the Thor role listed. His story of getting the role is extremely long and has some gory details, so I'll let Nikki Finke describe them to you. Long story short though, he was brought in for the first audition and all the agencies passed on him. Even Marvel passed on him. Then there were some others that came in, and ROAR management co-founder William Ward suggested to Marvel bigwig Kevin Feige that Hemsworth is the man for the role, so they brought him back. Low and behold, Marvel and Kenneth Branagh were intrigued by him and cast him immediately. So there you have it. The film has been pushed back to a May 20, 2011 release date, so it looks like we'll be having a summer of Avengers that year (Captain America and Avengers are both set to release that year as well). This could just be the latest in a string of non-casts for the role, but this time it does seem pretty definite. Stay tuned for more details. Chris Hemsworth is Thor
