Unthinkable optioned for film
Well it's done. The unthinkable has happened. I'm the most recent person to use the title of Mark Sable's Unthinkable series in a really bad pun as a lead in. That shouldn't detract from ensuring that Sable be commended for his work being optioned for a film by Mandalay Pictures.
Now details are pretty scant right now (actually they're non-existent) with the deal only being announced. I would imagine though that more details will be coming out as they're made available...that's usually how these things work. I'm sure that the film will focus on the original story where Alan Ripley inadvertently provides an international think tank the best ways to terrorize the world. I could see Matt Damon in the role.
Full press release after the jump.
BOOM! STUDIOS'
UNTHINKABLE FILM RIGHTS PICKED UP BY MANDALAY PICTURES!
November 19th, 2009 - Los Angeles, CA - BOOM! Studios is proud to announce that Mandalay Pictures has optioned the film rights to action-thriller series UNTHINKABLE!
“Our partners at Mandalay are the best in the business,” says BOOM! Studios CEO Ross Richie. “Cathy Schulman won the Oscar for CRASH and Peter Guber’s a legend in the business. We couldn’t be happier!”
UNTHINKABLE is created and written by Mark Sable (GROUNDED, FEARLESS) and with sensational art by Julian Totino Tedesco (THE REMNANT). The five-issue series to be collected in trade paperback soon, centers around best-selling author Alan Ripley, recruited just after 9/11 to join a government think tank of America’s most imaginative minds to think of nightmare scenarios and crippling terrorist attacks on U.S soil. Years after the think tank is disbanded, attacks Ripley envisioned begin to happen and only he can stop whoever is behind the destruction.
Other BOOM! titles that have been optioned include, TALENT, TAG and 2 GUNS by Universal, NORTH WIND by Davis Entertainment, and STATION by CBS Films.
