New Book Club Launches for Fans of Classic Comic Books
Classics such as The Wizard of Oz and classic characters such as Davy Crockett and Robin Hood have been featured in books and movies. There was also a phase where they were included in comics believe it or not. If you grew up on those comics or just like to go back to some of the classic works, a new website has just launched that will give readers access classics such as the ones mentioned above. My Classics Illustrated launched today with a catalogue of select issues chosen from a list of almost 150 available titles reprinted by Toronto based publisher Jack lake Productions.
“Jack Lake Productions offered me the opportunity to become more involved than I already had and I started expanding online sales,” says website creator Mike Gagnon. “MyClassicsIllustrated.com is just a natural extension of that. I’m a fan too and I want to create a place where other Classics fans can come together.”
The series of Classics Illustrated ran from 1941 to 1971 and printed over 350 issues of classic literature and famous biographies, adapted into comic book form for young readers. The original series even spread to include fairy tales, a separate British series with new stories and a 1990s revival featuring adaptations produced by First Publications. In 2003 Jack Lake Productions licensed the rights to Classics Illustrated from First Classics Inc. and has been steadily employing a team of restoration artists and colorists to revive and reproduce the original comics for a new generation or readers.
