Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)

Well I made it to Michigan, but can’t say it was worth it.

You would figure the land that created the automobile and built so many of those fine machines for a century would have one somewhere that might still run. I didn’t bother heading towards Detroit or Dearborn as both would be surely overrun with zombies, if not blown away outright.

I skirted southern border of Michigan and managed to find this hulking beast of a car that ran, but it was so big I couldn’t maneuver it around all the wrecks clogging the roads. On top of that it was so loud even when just idling the sound made it not worth the hassle and so I set out on foot again.

I did make sure to leave it running and booby trapped it for any zombies that might hear the noise and decide to check it out.

After going for about an hour I heard a big explosion coming from that direction, letting me know a curious party found it. Who knows how many of them got taken out in the blast, but I know it was all zombies as I made sure to make a sign that it was booby trapped just in case some would be survivor found it first. No sense killing a human just trying to survive in my journey.

Weapon wise I'm down to just a shotgun and a few handguns, as most of the long range ammo and machine gun stuff is gone. I've stuck mostly to melee fighting when possible to conserve what ammo I do have; if any radioactive zombies come my way I'm going to need it for them.

It’s not just the ammo I'm low on though; food is running low as well. Most of the stores and houses I've come across are pretty picked clean or contaminated. I wouldn’t want to eat what I could find in them. Gonna have to figure something out soon or life will be a whole lot tougher, as it’s not like I can stop in an area long enough to try and hunt without zombies showing up.

Have to start keeping a journal more to document what I see as the past few weeks there have been no new broadcasts or radio transmissions. There has to be some people out there. Maybe I'll head for Nebraska and New Mexico. Sure to be people there...hopefully.

Back to walking…
