Defense With The BoomStick
(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)
The internet. I never thought in my lifetime I would ever be able to get on the internet again. How I’ve missed you.
Bet you're thinking where in the hell could you find somewhere that had power and working computers. In addition, computers with the ability to still connect to servers and go online?
One answer: Kansas City.
Back before all this zombie taking over the world noise, Kansas City got that fiber optic network, bringing in some powerful hardware. I was making my way around the city when I came across their campus here and saw the fence around it was actually still intact. Figured it would be worthwhile to break into and see what I could find.
Turns out this spot had solar panels all over the place which have kept the power going. I did had to go up there and clean a lot of them, but there were still enough functioning to keep the servers from overheating and power the facility. You cannot believe how sweet power and internet is with no zombies in sight. I love a big fence too.
Not much of the internet is still up. I've really only been able to catch up on some YouTube videos from four years ago, but not much in the way of updated news. Mostly other survivors who somehow managed to stay connected and alive to keep posting. Only downside to this place is not much in the way of food. Sure I raided all the vending machines I could find and most of it is stale as hell, but it's something. There has to be a cafeteria around this place somewhere; I mean workers had to eat right?
I figure can camp out here maybe a day or two longer, but then have to go hunting for food if I can't find the cafeteria around here. Depending on the surrounding area I might be able to make this a suitable base to operate out of. Things are looking up for once.
Now where are those chips?
