Defense With The BoomStick
(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)
War of attrition. That's what we're entering in this fight against zombies. With a base of operation out near Kansas City, we've been able to branch out further and further, setting traps and killing zombies along the way.
I've still been hearing those reports out of New Mexico about survivors and a big camp that I was originally heading towards. With the luck I've had over the past month how could I go there now? A really good thing is happening here and it’s great to be able to take the fight to the zombies and not fear getting jacked in my sleep by them in an unsecure place.
With the other five survivors I’m working with, we keep on doing some great work around here. In addition to messing up zombies in the process, we're clearing roads and razing houses to help create better lines of sight to keep an eye on our surroundings. We also came across a few survivors who were trapped in a bus by a group of zombies that were just about getting in to eat them all. Took out the zombies, rescued the survivors and now we have a bit larger group working together to keep this place and the greater fight going.
Living in this environment the past month and working like this reminds me of the compound I had for a little over three years up in South Dakota that was so perfect. I'm just hoping that it doesn’t end the same way here as it did there. Oh wait zombie at the fence…… Over here a little more get closer… Ah there. Easy as a hot knife through butter.
That's been most of what we deal with around here as the zombie population in this immediate area is next to none. Still can’t account for where all of the ones who might have inhabited Kansas City went to, but it's been years since it all started. Zombies seem to migrate in a pattern, but damn if I can figure it out. Still don't understand what drives them and even with me being half-zombie I cannot tell what it is. I would let it control me more to get a glimpse into the mindset of a zombie, but I'm fearful it may take me down a road I won’t be able to come back from.
Tomorrow we're going to move further south in our search to try and find other survivors who might be hiding out. To bring them here and start to make something again that can be a safe haven and new life for more than just us.
