Defense With The BoomStick
(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)
Alone again.
I don’t mean to be alone from other survivors, but whenever I'm around them bad things happen and people die. No matter how secure we think the spot we have is; zombies always get in and ruin it all.
I've been walking now for the past week, not bothering with trying to find a vehicle as they've become more trouble than they're worth. Walking has done me good as working the muscles has helped dampen down the zombie side in me that felt like it was setting in more and more as I sat around holed up. Still have some medicine left, but I've been feeling like I don’t need it as much as I think. I have the zombie side under control within me. My limbs have felt great; no slowness or sluggishness either.
I'm enjoying being alone as I haven’t seen any zombies since last Sunday. When I escaped out of sight of that group I managed to not pick up anymore tails and have been walking unencumbered by those walking dead bastards. Need to find a new compass though as I lost mine in my hasty getaway. I've generally been heading in the direction I want towards the Southwest, but I'd still like something better to rely on than road signs.
Not having to stick close to roads will allow me to move about more undetected going cross country. Doing it that way will help keep me alive that much longer and that much more difficult for zombies to follow since I can choose the terrain that would be easier for me than them. Plus you never know what you can find going cross country that could be useful.
I found a road sign for a town says population of 200. I doubt there's anywhere near that number or even any at all left in there, but it's a start to find some gear to help me out. Gonna sneak in as close as I can and scout it out, as there's no sense charging without knowing what or who I might find. Never a dull moment.
