Defense With The BoomStick
(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight after being bitten and partially cured to walk as a half-zombie among them.)
Zombies…lots of them.
That's what I found in that small town last weekend and they've been on me ever since. Anytime I think I’ve given them the slip I hear that moan down the road or outside a house I'm hiding in and get running again. I haven’t felt this hunted since back up north after that New England fiasco that almost got me killed.
I even managed to lose half my ammo when I went searching for the compass and food in the town. I didn’t even realize I was surrounded until it was too late; when rummaging through a grocery store I looked up and see this mass of bodies pressed up against the glass banging on the glass. It wasn’t until the glass broke and they came piling in did I hightail it out the back loading dock, knocking down some that circled around back.
Ever since then I've been running and running. Every time I stop I get maybe an hour or two before I hear them getting close. They just seem so driven to track me down and stay on me; I’ve seen this behavior before when those radioactive zombies were on my trail. I haven’t seen any of them for months if memory serves correctly, but with the way the weeks have been treating me I can't rely too well on my memory.
Not sure what else I can do besides stop running and fight, but if I get bogged down in a fight I feel I'll get surrounded and overwhelmed in that case. Just have no fracking idea what I'm going to do. Life is never going to get easier and in this zombie world nothing will be easy.
So far I haven’t seen any good spots that would make a stand possible or allow me to make a quick getaway if I needed to. All I can do is run and hope I can lose them or find some survivors that might be able to help me out. Although that can lead to its own level of complications with whether or not they are keen on helping out or killing me to take my gear.
Nobody ever said life on the road was safe, but after four and half years of this zombie world going on you figured people would get over that initial urge to kill and accept all the help they can.
