Defense With The BoomStick

(Defense With The BoomStick Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Back in the real world you would never think about sneaking onto an Air Force base to steal anything, let alone supplies. Now in this zombie world there is no place off limits, short of the middle of a city surrounded by zombies. Our goal was Edwards Air Force Base that was located West of Barstow. It's there we hoped to find some mode of transportation on the former military base.

It took us most of the week to circle around Barstow, moving slowly so as to not alert anything to our presence in the process. Doing it on foot takes a damn long time as well, since there are a number of small cities around that could push zombies our way. Now that there are six of us moving about it takes a lot of caution to make sure none of us are seen where one could move quickly and be just about invisible.

That part of all this has taken the most getting used to is that I've not been with a group of people out in the open for a long time. You have to change just about every aspect of the way you move, react, cover...just makes you step your game up. Since you are watching out for others as well as yourself, life is easier within a group, but it has its difficulties that go along too. I am glad to have company again and so far we are clicking pretty well together as if we’ve been doing for a lot longer.

“What are you working on?” Jacob asked me.

“Just a journal to chronicle all I have been and done.” I replied. “Sometime, somewhere a record of the events that happened in these years will come about and I feel all the different stories that can be shared the better.”

From the looks of the maps we are another two days away from the outer most fence of the base. After that I have no clue what we will find there; I’m just hoping we find something to help us out. We will rest up here for another hour or so and get a move on. Gotta find a more secure spot to camp for the night as it gets pretty damn chilly at night around here.
