Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 19.

When good news happens, it can make even a day in the zombie world a better one. The good news for us comes in the form of ten working tanks, five APCs and tons of fuel to run them all. It’s been a busy week around the vehicle yard getting as many of these old hunks of junks working, with most of the folks here getting a lot done with little zombie interference.

The tanks are on the older side though and took a bit to get going. The added benefit of there age is that some are from World War II and have the plows on the front already built in, used to bust through underbrush over in Belgium. Those will come in handy plowing through the ranks of zombies and preventing the treads from getting gummed up with zombie parts. Most of us didn’t have much knowledge on how to run these tanks, but with enough tinkering and trial and error we got it done.

Having all these vehicles going has been one thing. The other side of the equation is having ammo to shoot and that's coming up in short supply around here. For that a few groups went out into the surrounding areas to some old National Guard and Army bases in search of ammo these tanks can use. Those teams should be back next week; at least we hope they'll be back next week. All we can do around here is keeping working on vehicles, getting this place more secured and keeping the zombies at bay around the fence.

One other bit of good news is the radios in these vehicles are working now too. That will be very handy to maintain communication when we do get to go on the offensive and become surrounded by zombies trying to get in. With the radios working we picked up radio traffic from that survivor’s outpost we left up in the mountains at the ski lodge resort and are working to organize with them when we make the push towards Carson City. The other bonus is being linked up with a big survivor group out in Colorado that seems to have a bit of firepower at their disposal as well. They plan on helping us take out zombies in Carson City as well when we make the push.

We need to figure out what all those zombies are doing there. That amount of zombies in one place can't be good for anyone.
