Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 37.

The plan is slowly but surely coming together. Taking out the zombie horde that was built up in Carson City has dealt a major blow to the number of zombies around the western half of the United States. Since most of the major cities were bombed to hell (and a few nuked) it's the smaller cities that will be the problematic ones. With the way things are going it feels like we can start to carve out territory that will be zombie free, allowing us to move about without fear.

To start we're going to bridge the land between the northern California location to the government camp at Oregon/Washington state border. We want to create a safe corridor for travel between the two camps, allowing for better trading and communication since most satellites are by now out of the sky. The way we figured it was best to plan on burying the communication lines along the corridor to protect against the weather, roaming bandits or zombie hordes that could knock a pole down. Getting these two camps linked up and more secure will allow us to begin venturing out and reclaiming more land for us.
We have to take advantage of this lull in zombie attacks to get what we can done. Around here things are shaping up quite nicely with a ton of new landscape cleared and walled in to start farming on. Scouting parties have gone out and actually found wild horses and cattle to bring back, giving us a new food source. Also, we found a few farms that somehow managed to have chickens still around; granted they are wild and a bit feisty, but with time can get them domesticated and get some eggs flowing again. Things are really starting to come around for us and it's feeling good to get so much accomplished.

All of this is great and getting better--connecting with our neighbors to the north is great. Eventually though we'll need to get out there and start hunting down zombies. The more we kill the safer it is for all of us and the more we kill the more land we can reclaim as well. Before that can happen we need to know where the zombies are and that will be the dangerous part; sending out scouting parties further and further to find where zombies might be grouping together. Those are the spots we need to find to get taken out, because if we hunt down zombies one at a time it will take forever to get rid of them all.

Over the next week is when tasks will get divvied up and we begin taking back our world from the zombies. For too long we have lived in fear of death around the corner and being eaten alive by a pack of zombies. Now they should fear us as we bring down vengeance upon the zombies, as there are no qualms about what they or who they are. No longer are they are fellow man, woman or child, but zombies looking to take a bite out of us. We will fight and we will win.
