Defense With The BoomStick

(Disclaimer: This post is an ongoing story set in a world where zombies have taken over and people are fighting to survive anyway they can. Originally it was a post of news and tips to help survivors make it one more day alive, but now it has became a story of my fight to survive and to keep on living.)

Year 5. Week 43.

We've begun our offensive push towards the east. Stopping in Reno to see if any of that depots and outposts we abandoned have anything of use before continuing on. From there our group will follow the interstate heading east, with Salt Lake City being the first major city in our path. It would be foolish to go into the city as there are too many hiding spots and possible ambush points if any of those radioactive zombies are around. Still, we figure Salt Lake City is the best place to start our search for where all the zombies we've encountered out west are coming from.

This force has to keep on the move though. When we were stopping to clear out towns is when a sizable zombie force came at us and gave us a bit of trouble. Staying on the move and moving fast is going to be the only method for us if we don’t want to give zombies a chance to catch us off guard. Not sure how far east we plan on heading; figure we'll go until we find where all the zombies are coming from at all costs. Taking them out will make all of us a hell of lot safer because once they are taken care of then it’s just possible bandits to deal with. The best place for a zombie force to hide will be in a major city.

The satellite coverage the government forces have isn't adequate enough to cover a fraction of them and that's where we come in. It does feel good to be back on the move, with the open road ahead of us and the past in our rear view. That life of a daily routine just isn’t me anymore or at least it's not something I can do for too long. Life has just changed too much over the past six years since this all started and it feels weird to stay settled in one spot. Especially after that first place I had for so long fell to zombies, staying in one place and getting to know folks usually leads to disappointment.

Now the joy I get out of life is taking out zombies. I’m not sure what I would do if I wasn't able to move about as easily as I can now. Life has definitely taken many turns for me since zombies first started to eat the living and now we get a chance to possibly stop it from happening anymore. For now we just have to focus on what's in front of us and currently that's a vehicle with people I trust and who trust me. Out here that's all we're gonna have and depend on; sure the government unit is providing air cover when we need it and they have a satellite tracking us, but we have to count on the folks on the ground.

It shouldn’t take us too long to get to Salt Lake City--maybe by mid next week. From there we'll have to scout it out and plan routes around it as well as a possible incursion into the city to see if zombies are amassing anywhere in there. Depending on what we find will help us decide our next plan of action; with more than likely a bombing of the city if any zombie movement is detected within. It will fall to us to make sure no stragglers make it out of there.
