Image Comics and Top Cow Bring Honor Harrington to Graphic Novels

Enlisting in the Royal Manticoran Navy is a lot tougher than you would think. It's a rather storied unit that travels through space and boasts Honor Harrington, a Commodore who's on the eve of her execution. There's a lot more to her story though and Image Comics is partnering with Top Cow to release the graphic novel adaptation of David Weber's novel in Tales of Honor: On Basilisk Station Volume 1.

“Matt Hawkins has done a remarkable job of staying faithful to the original story and the science while adding his own unique perspective to it,” Weber continued. “I don’t think that should surprise anyone, given Matt’s works like Think Tank and Aphrodite IX, both of which explore stories with real grounding in scientific fact in thoughtful, yet highly entertaining ways. In the case of Tales of Honor, his decision to create a story in which Honor reflects on her past creates a focused perspective on these characters and stories which should be exciting for new readers while offering longstanding fans fresh insights into stories they may have read long ago.”

From prison, Harrington tells her story, starting with her first command mission on a hellish, backwater outpost in a distant star system. On Basilisk, Honor discovers and confronts a conspiracy that will lead the Manticore Kingdom into the horror of war with the corrupt Haven Republic. The Honor Harrington series consists of 29 novels by David Weber, published by Baen, with over 7 million copies in print worldwide. Evergreen Studios has expanded the Honorverse into comics and gaming.

In adapting the series, Top Cow worked closely with Weber, who writes in his introduction to the first issue, “Honor and I are moving into entirely new media, and I feel confident Evergreen Studios and Top Cow will introduce Honor and her friends — and enemies — to an even larger audience, with a few new, exciting wrinkles of their own as my literary creations are given a strong graphic look and the characters are brought to life on the screen.”

Tales of Honor: On Basilisk Station Volume 1 by Matt Hawkins and Sang-Il Jeong will be in comic book stores (Diamond Comic order code AUG140608) on November 12 and in bookstores (ISBN 978-1-63215-020-2) on November 25.
