Saints Demands Worship

Sean Lewis is pretty well-known as a personality on This American Life and for winning awards as a playwright. That's not good enough for a creative type like Lewis, as he's teaming up with artist Benjamin Mackey for a new ongoing series called Saints, which begins when Blaise, Lucy and Sebastian discover a Holy War is erupting and they, unwittingly, are the next generation of Saints poised to fight for a heaven that God has abandoned.

“I was drawn in the moment Ben pitched the idea to me: 'What if the Patron Saints returned to earth and their martyrdom became their superpower,” said Lewis. “I had gone to Catholic school, I'm first generation Irish-American, really deep in religious guilt—I thought it was brilliant. It's been the most fun I've had writing something because it deals with things I'm really interested in. Deep things like what people believe in and why, but also funny and frivolous things like heavy metal. The book is thoughtful, for sure, but also insanely funny. Kind of like a Dogma on steroids. That's what makes it a joy."

Mackey added: “In Saints, you have these characters, housing the souls of revered religious martyrs, that still need to eat, sleep, drink, and figure out what the hell is going on in their lives. I want to capture this balance of the contemporary mundanity with a classical sense of the monumental. Drawing on inspiration from John Singer Sargent, Giambattista Tiepolo, David Lynch, 19 Kids and Counting, Eastern Orthodox Icons, and Slipknot… I hope to create a visual milieu that although clean and simple on surface, houses a much more tumultuous interior life.”

Saints #1> (Diamond Code: AUG150481) will be available on Wednesday, October 7th. Final Order Cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, September 14th. Full press release below.
SAINTS—A NEW CRIME-HORROR SERIES
READERS WILL WORSHIP

A gritty new ongoing series blending breakneck action with occult undertones

Award-winning playwright and This American Life personality Sean Lewis teams up with red-hot artist Benjamin Mackey for an all-new ongoing series in SAINTS. Dexter-style action collides with a Preacher-esque sensibility in this crime-horror series that will launch on October 7th.

SAINTS begins when Blaise, Lucy, and Sebastian discover a Holy War is erupting and they, unwittingly, are the next generation of Saints poised to fight for a heaven that God has abandoned.

The occult rises in this spectacular, action-packed new series that promises heavy metal, sex, and deadly one-liners at every turn.

SAINTS #1 (Diamond Code: AUG150481) will be available on Wednesday, October 7th. Final Order Cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, September 14th.
